Google does it again with their biggest, annual event and their ability to showcase products, at their I/O 2024 Conference on May 14. The event recently announced major projects and highlighted new tools and updates, with a strong focus on AI advancements and future technology.
Gemini
With exciting news, Google introduced Gemini 1.5, the latest update to their newest AI model at the I/O 2024 Conference. Gemini 1.5 is a flexible, multimodal model designed to understand diverse subjects with more rationality and depth, compared to their 1.0 version. It features two variants: Pro, for broad cases, and Flash, for time-sensitive problems. The event also showcased Gemini’s integration with Google Workspace and other apps, with the potential to replace Google Assistant on Android phones. Additionally, CEO Pichai placed emphasis on its investment and its importance.
Gems
Gemini not only focuses on giving users a rundown on giving information, but also presents another feature, known as Gems which are custom chatbots. Presented by one of Google executives, Hsiao, Gems allows users to personalize their assistants to write down steps or schedule, in turn, receive feedback and instructions. The bots are written based on the user’s customization and given its own persona.
Veo
As text-to-video AI begins to become popular among tech enthusiasts and users, Google revealed Veo, as a new competitor to OpenAI’s Sora and explored the tool’s possibilities. Veo will focus on generating a cinematic view and storytelling perspective to those who want to experience the art of filmmaking.
Imagen 3
More comes along as Imagen 3 represented text-to-image opportunities as their latest version for Google’s AI image generator. Users can prompt out what they want and will be presented with additional details that they may want. In addition, Imagen 3 is open to bring more in text optimization for prompters.
Project Astra
One of the biggest reveals and major highlights Google showed during the conference, is Project Astra. It is an universal AI agent capable of recognizing and understanding questions via a phone’s camera. Google presented a live demo to the audience, showcasing their employee asking where they left their pair of glasses, with Astra responding back the item’s location by memory and accuracy. This all-in-one model promises a new era of multimodal AI, offering a more efficient and natural way to interact with AI technology.
Google aims to enhance AI accessibility and usability, expanding their models to stay competitive with OpenAI and ChatGPT. They plan to leverage AI for more conscious and versatile applications, catering to tech users and enthusiasts. Google’s goal is to utilize AI to better understand and respond to user queries, integrating advanced technology into everyday use. With Project Astra and Gemini, we see that AI standards are elevated and those of big tech companies seek to leverage operations to achieve similar objectives.
