NBA Unveils New AI Technology at NBA All-Star Weekend

By: Tyler Quach

The NBA All-Star Weekend had just occurred. Although, the weekend did not go without controversy for many of the events such as the Dunk Contest or the All-Star game itself, but what thing  that did come out of the event that was really interesting to me was NB-AI. This is the NBA’s attempt at modernizing the way the game is shown through AI.

This would definitely not be the first time that the NBA has unveiled some new tech that they are using. At All-Star weekends from years past the NBA showed many new interesting innovations such as the “Smart Jersey” that allows user to change the name and number of their favorite jersey through a mobile app.

What was Unveiled?

This NBA All-Star Weekend Adam Silver and Victor Wembenyama introduced the NBA’s latest innovation is NB-AI, which is a voice assistant that can help those watching answer any question they may have related to the game or NBA history in it entirety.

But one thing that NB-AI did that definitely caught my attention was it’s ability to an NBA game into an animation form. This is definitely very interesting if the NBA plans to implement this into the future. It will be a new way to watch basketball and may get more people of a younger audience to start watching the NBA. Also, the potential for Cartoon channels to collaborate would be interesting as well. Especially, since the NFL just hosted the Superbowl on Nickelodeon as well.

Conclusion

This tech is actually very promising and will only get better as time progresses and the NBA innovates it to be even better. The NBA are very well-known for keeping up with the latest trends in technology. The future looks bright for AI not only in the NBA, but sports as a whole.
